Our History

From a local initiative to a trusted national partner

2014

Founded in Khartoum

WCC begins as a volunteer group supporting single mothers across three neighbourhoods.

2017

First international partnership

The child protection program launches with support from a UN agency.

2020

Expansion to six states

Field offices open and health and education services extend beyond the capital.

2023

Emergency humanitarian response

Rapid-response teams are formed to support displaced women and children.

2026

Over 12,000 lives impacted

A network of 15 institutional partners and forty completed projects across six states.

WCC is overseen by a seven-member independent board that meets quarterly, supported by an Audit & Risk Committee and a Safeguarding Committee. Executive management is accountable to the board for programmatic and financial performance.

Women's Empowerment

We help women build independent income and a voice in their communities, through an integrated path from vocational training to savings groups to local leadership.

What we do

Vocational training in tailoring, food processing and handicrafts, with start-up kits.

Village savings and loan groups managed by the women themselves.

Leadership coaching and participation in local decision-making committees.

Referral and legal support for survivors of gender-based violence.

Child Protection

We give children at risk a safe place, a trusted adult and a clear path back to education and normal family life.

Education

Education is the fastest route out of poverty. We return out-of-school children to learning and keep girls enrolled through completion.

Accelerated catch-up classes for children who have missed school years.

New maternal health clinic opens in Kassala state

Institutional communications team

WCC this week opened a new maternal health clinic in rural Kassala state, serving more than four thousand women across twelve villages whose nearest point of care was three hours away.

The clinic includes an equipped delivery room, an antenatal unit and cold storage for vaccines, staffed by six trained midwives and two nurses — all from the local community.

"Women here no longer have to choose between a long journey and giving birth without care. That is the difference we work for."

The project sits within WCC's wider health program, co-funded by an international partner with a contribution from the state Ministry of Health, and is governed by an M&E framework tracking safe delivery rates and immunisation coverage over three years.
